This was the first time I have a trailer instead of bags. My comments are a direct comparison between the two. Cycling distance was about 2,500 miles, most ferry and train on the Bass Strait and the Nullarbor Plain.
The bike was towing a rigid aluminum frame with 26 "wheels and tires. 11-34 9-speed drive was back and forth 22-32-44. Shimano XT hydraulic brakes were discs with 160mm. It was in front panniers and a handlebar bag.
The trailer was fully loaded, full of heavy items low and forward in BOB bag. A travel bag was tied at the top with three extra bottles of water 1.5L.
The weight felt. He pushed the bike pulled the brakes and acceleration. A porter loaded bike feels heavy, but without the thrust and drag.
He had momentum and rolled effortlessly, but once I crossed that the diagonally up soon looking for a low gear.
Braking requires a technique, think "trailers".Had a greater distance than arrest, with hydraulic discs. Both brakes need to be shared with the rear brake is applied first.
With the front brake first felt the weight pushing from behind is not safe, especially when cornering. I also suspect that the power the headset loose thread.
Steering was slow and heavy. The plant preferred sweet curves without abrupt maneuvers. The takeoff was very stable and straight. A porter loading of bikes often begins with a pair ofSteering second wild, but is overall faster maneuverability.
Inversions required a larger turning circle, and move more slowly with less lean. This is when I felt my trailer was more than heavy, even though I was moving quite slowly just off the pace, if it is tilted.
Parking needs based on something that usually means the manual handling of the bike and trailer into a stable position against something solid. Often there was nothing available and I would lose the picture.
AHandbrake made a big difference, is negotiating with a rubber band on the brake lever there.
There is a free-standing technique that many use, turning the bike and trailer at a right angle. I think that puts the emphasis on the issue BOB abnormally fast and safety pins.
Reverse requires practice. I did not realize how many times I push the bike back until I had to do with a trailer.
Trains and ferries require unhooking the trailer. This meant two pieces of luggage space. Fortunately, I was notto unpack everything and field. Other articles I read discouraged release a trailer load, but I did it anyway. It takes strength and be careful not to bend or break anything.
Suggestions and complaints:
When you fall, take the BOB through its structure and do not use the wheel as a lever to lift it. Severe damage to the hitch.
Improve significantly larger than a rear brake disc reduce brake wear and brake performance would be back. A larger front rotor might not be a good idea, I thinkIt would stress the aforementioned front-end to increase.
It could be a mid-support free-standing, not to rely on something. A side stand will not work.
A piece of carpet bag, and cut holes in the drawer stop rubbing the wire on the bottom of the bag.
Could move a handle to a trailer load also be a wheelbarrow.
BOB Ibex trailer model with a suspension would be better to handle the bumps and dips, but I wanted lessmoving parts to arrive.
The clips are positioned on the bag so low that the opening and closing the pocket, while he is on the trailer can be difficult.
Wheels of the trailer is below the rear fender, mud will not stop splashed all over the BOB bag.
CONCLUSION:
The trailer looked good, everything was not to break, and had a wonderful conversation piece. He also went well and the bike followed.
He has the ability to carry heavy equipment, and convenienceDecoupling of heavy vehicles during shipment without it.
Cycling uphill, brakes, making U-turns, to overcome obstacles, reverse parking, and on public transport, require a different set of techniques and sometimes even more difficult.
The bike / trailer is a subject with its habits and should be treated as such. Only a solo bike will behave like a motorcycle solo.
It is interesting to note that once required new driving habits have been formed, everything just feels sohas done much more like a traveler like my clothes basket full of bike ever. Or maybe I was just thrilled with all the positive attention from people ... whatever, I would definitely use again.
